On May 29 two Mission Viejo schools will receive awards as 2009 California Distinguished Schools. The award banquet will be hosted by the Disneyland Resort.
The local Distinguished Schools are Mission Viejo High School and Trabuco Hills High School. Only 261 schools statewide will receive the honors, placing them in the top 10% of California’s 2,400 middle and high schools.
The recognition will be the fourth for MVHS. Only three other schools have received Distinguished School honors four times: Troy, Sunny Hills, Sonoma and Los Alamitos.
Winners had to demonstrate their educational scores were rising for all groups, including socio-economic disadvantaged students. Under the No Child Left Behind Program, schools can no longer achieve Distinguished status based on the results of its best performing groups.
This year’s winners will be able to carry the Distinguished School title until 2013.
