Mission Viejo’s Heather Schwartzburg, a freshman pitcher for Quinnipiac College in New York, was named last week as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the year.
The right-hander set a Quinnipiac Division I record with 206 strikeouts. The previous record was 122 strikeouts in 2007.

Former MV resident Adam Harvell, 36, was shot dead Tuesday by police in West Des Moines, Iowa. Harvell lived in MV as late as 2008, according to the Des Moines Register.
Harvell was a suspect in a series of residential invasions and sexual assaults. Police said he had previously spent 10 months in prison. [...]
