The mother of a Leta Cordes died last week without learning what ever happened to her daughter on the Island of St Marten.
Leta Lynn Cordes was a caregiver for her mother, Modena McLendon, prior to Leta’s mysterious disappearance in St. Martin. Five months after Leta disappeared, her mother was moved to a State hospital due to lack of available care. She passed away alone at the California State Hospital last Friday March 6th following complications of Alzheimer’s disease, according to the St Marten News. Three of her children predeceased her.
Leta disappeared January 11, 2008. Her husband, Frank, said she was intoxicated and left their hotel room on foot enroute to a nearby casino. She never arrived at the casino.
Frank was held in custody as a suspect for over three months by Island prosecutor Taco Stein, but was later released.
Three months ago an extensive search was conducted for the body of Leta using international investigators and highly trained cadaver dogs, but no evidence was found.
